Infopublishing 101 - 5 Strategies You Can Use To Sell More Books

What is Infopublishing?

Infopublishing deals with the promotion of content or information for distribution or sale. While many authors and writers had limited choices in the past for publishing their works these days the internet has opened a whole new world of possibilities. Unfortunately many authors still struggle to sell their books. To be successful, authors must become marketers and learn how to reach their desired audience both offline and online.

These days you have several options when it comes to publishing your book(s) and reaching thousands of potential customers. But the secret involves more than just writing a great book. To be effective you also have to learn how to think like a successful marketer. Great marketers always strive to understand their customer's unique needs and use multiple strategies to market and sell their products and services.

Proven Strategies You Can Use To Sell More Books

Strategy #1: Survey Your Market

One way to virtually guarantee a bestseller is to let your market write your book for you. By surveying or asking your market what is important to them, you can discover the questions and the answers your inquiring audience wants to know. Check out surveymonkey.com for more ways to create online surveys and questionnaires.

Strategy #2: Engage Your Audience with Compelling Content

The only way to increase sales long term is to create strong relationships with your customers. To do that you must engage your audience with compelling content that makes you the expert in your niche. As a result they will see you as the person to go to for results.

Strategy #3: Build a Targeted List of Prospects

All successful marketers focus on building lists of targeted customers who are interested in their products and services. The important thing to remember is to build your list before you start your book and continue while you're writing. This will allow you to have a large audience ready to buy your book as soon as it's ready for release.

Strategy #4: Publish Your Books Online

One of the fastest ways to reach customers and increase sales is to offer your book(s) online. While a 300 page book may retail for $15-20 in a bookstore, a digital version can sell anywhere from $10 to $100 depending on your audience. After initial costs and hosting fees, selling digital books usually means you get to keep about 95% of the profits for yourself. Check out Lulu.com for a quick way you can immediately begin selling your books online.

Strategy #5: Create a Marketing Swipe File

Successful marketers study what works and build swipe files of the best marketing methods and principles for future use. They also go to seminar to study and learn the latest strategies to use in their own businesses. A good swipe file can offer you great insights, tested strategies, and powerful principles to help increase your sales.

12 Ways to Keep Your Nonfiction Book In the News

Publishers are willing to publicize nonfiction books when theyre released, but they rarely do much after the launch to keep books in the news, even though most deserve ongoing media exposure. Here are some easy things you can do to generate continuing publicity for your title. Use a mix of these ideas to develop a 12-month publicity plan that will provide the support your book needs.

Turn the advice in your chapters into a series of monthly tip sheets. A tip sheet is a press release that offers tips or advice in a bulleted or numbered format. Start your tip sheet with an introductory paragraph that explains why the tips youre offering are important, list your bulleted advice, then tie it all together at the end with a concluding paragraph. Send it to appropriate media outlets; the distribution list will depend on your topic.

Contact the press immediately when your topic is making headlines to offer your expert perspective. This is a sure thing with most local media outlets when its a national news story because youre giving them a local angle. If youve done enough interviews to prepare for the big time, pitch the national news outlets, too.

Add the media to your newsletter distribution list. The same useful advice or information you offer subscribers in your print or electronic newsletter could be of interest to reporters covering that topic, too. I got a book contract several years ago from the publicity that resulted from adding the media to the distribution list of a newsletter I publish.

Repackage your book content into by-lined trade magazine articles. Depending on the terms of your publishing contract, you might need to do some rewriting so its new material. Make sure the author credit at the end of the article includes your book title.

Capitalize on holidays and special months, weeks and days by distributing a press release with useful, newsworthy information related to the topic, or by contacting the press to offer yourself as an expert information source. For example, many daily newspapers run articles in December about how the holidays are especially difficult for people who are grieving the recent loss of a loved one or facing the anniversary of a loss. This presents many coast-to-coast interview opportunities for the author of a book on grief and loss but only if the author reaches out to the press.

Contact the public relations department of your industrys trade association to offer yourself for media interviews. Association public relations people are often contacted by writers looking for members with a particular expertise to interview. Make sure your association knows about your qualifications and the topics you can comment on, and youll get referral calls.

Conduct a newsworthy and relevant survey on your topic and announce the interesting results in a press release. The author of a cookbook designed to make cooking simple and easy, for example, can survey people about why they dont cook more, and release the findings in a press release sent to newspaper food editors and cooking magazines. The release should include information about your books connection to the survey topic.

Sponsor an attention-getting contest and announce the results in a press release. To promote my humor book about men, I conducted a Worst Gift from a Man Contest. The resulting press release led to nationwide media attention, including a holiday appearance on a national cable TV talk show.

Push your publishers publicist to monitor ProfNet for reporter queries related to your topic all year. Alternatively, subscribe to ProfNet via its PR Leads reseller and respond to appropriate queries. A subscription via PRLeads.com is $99 per month.

Monitor writer forums for source requests. Members frequently post requests on the magazines and newspapers forum for interview sources.

Tell the media when youre visiting their market. Reporters love to interview experts who arent local, so if youre in another city for any reason, contact the appropriate media people two weeks before your trip to offer ideas for articles they can write based on an in-person interview with you. If youre in town to speak, send an announcement press release several weeks in advance and offer to do a pre-event telephone interview.

Re-purpose your best tips into a free booklet. Write and distribute a press release that describes the booklet and how people can get a free copy; make sure both the booklet and the release include information about your book, too.

Generating ongoing publicity is work, but its not rocket science. Invest the time so you boost sales while contributing to your author platform. Youll see the rewards at the end of the year.

Book Review - Unsung Patriot

In every generation there are heroes. Some receive medals, and ribbons to honor them for their service to our country. Others receive plaques or trophies. Many receive acclaim for personal accomplishments in business, sports, or entertainment. There are also innumerable behind the scenes heroes who never receive the accolades. These are the unsung heroes serving behind the lines while others receive the applause.

Viginia Vassallo has written the biography of Guy T. Viskniskki, the founder, and first editor-in-chief of The Stars and Stripes newspaper, published during the fighting months of the American Expeditionary Forces (AEF) in World War I during 1917 -1919.

At the age forty, Guy put a successful career in newspaper editing and publishing on hold and responded to a sense of patriotism by enlisting in armed forces. He hoped to be placed on the frontline with the troops in Europe. However, he was assigned to General Headquarters guiding newspapermen throughout the American zone in France. While traveling through France he conceived the idea of a newspaper written "by and for the soldiers" of the A.E.F. He saw this as a need to raise morale among the troops.

By November in 1917 Second Lieutenant Guy T. Viskniskki was press officer and censor at the American Expeditionary Forces (AEF). Already a veteran of the Wheeler Newspaper Syndicate, and former editor of the Bayonet, a camp newspaper of the Eightieth Division, Camp Lee, Virginia Guy was asked to develop his idea and to explore the feasibility of publishing a newspaper for the AEF.

Once it was determined that an AEF newspaper could be produced in France, Viskniskki became the first managing editor of The Stars and Stripes. Guy successfully faced the challenges of staffing, paper shortages, and maintaining editorial control with integrity. Stars and Stripes became Guys legacy. After the war he again resumed his newspaper career, served as editor of several newspapers, and as a consultant in the publishing field.

Proud of her heritage and of her Grandfathers accomplishments Virginia Vassallo produced this book as a tribute to honor his memory. What started as a few notes and memories to preserve some family history for her grandson became a monumental project. Her fascination for one more bit of information drove her into writing this thoroughly researched and well documented monument to this Unsung Patriot: Guy T. Viskniskki.

Virginia used her grandfathers unpublished memoirs, various internet sources, interviews with family members, and numberless newspaper articles, and correspondence to research the background information this book. She contacted Jim Mayo, President of the Stars and Stripes Museum for help. Jim was eager to assist her in this project and provided additional valuable resource information.

Guy T. Viskniskki will long be remembered for his patriotism, integrity and perseverance for the things he valued. The book will provide inspiration to small town newspaper editors and the editor-in-chiefs of newspapers across the world. Veterans Associations, Sons of the American Revolution, and members of the American Legion will remember Guys indefatigable efforts for their causes. As readers they will applaud this tribute to a tireless mentor and for his advocacy for the peoples of United States of America.

Virginias respect and admiration for the accomplishments of Guy T. Viskniskki comes through in her writing. She masterfully created well-rounded word pictures of this dynamic, yet complex, man whose legacy is the Stars and Stripes. Virginia is very articulate, her words are well chosen. Her organization is meticulous, and her presentation is convincing. I say Bravo!

Book Review - Switched at Birth

A memoir with a twist, "Switched at Birth: My Life in Someone Else's World" by Frederick J. George examines the coincidences of life and the sense of humor of fate. Placed in the wrong bassinet in the hospital, Frederick didn't confirm the switch until he was 57, and the parents he had grown up with were already passed on; his birth mother the only parent left to embrace in this deeply moving time.

His father had always been suspicious, even accusing Frederick's mother of having had an affair. He always looked a little bit different than his siblings in the family photos, and had slightly different interests, but Fred had tried to fit in. Fate also tried, making efforts to step in, crossing the paths of both boys and their families over the years. Fred's brother was even friends with the switched boy, Jim. Ironic is the word that comes to mind, almost unbelievable is the tale.

Fred shares the histories of both of his families and how he came to understand them. He opens up, telling readers of his relationship with his birth mother, as it began so much later than it possibly should have, and his relationships with his plethora of siblings. Discovering an additional family history helps Frederick to find out who he really is and who he might have been.

The writing is reminiscent of the passed down family legend, purely memoir, remembered and shared in honesty. This is an interesting book about a twist of fate.

Book Review - Ravenstone

Ravenstone
By Deborah Cannon
ISBN:1425146023

Archaeologist Jake Lalonde searches for the origins of the icon of the mythical raven, as depicted in an ancient carving off the coast of British Columbia. Haunting his dreams, his search finds him is so far from what is expected that it leaves him breathless and nearly distracted enough to forget a deadly threat to his and Angeline's lives. Deborah Cannon brings legends into a new light in "Ravenstone," the third in a series but also a stand alone novel.

Menacing messages appear on Angeline's phone and the threat is all too real though some suspect she is imagining it. A past nemesis has returned to Angeline and Jake's world. Once safely (not really) locked away, insanely rich Radisson again haunts their minds and hunts control over their souls. When Jake's daughter's presence is revealed and then threatened, action must be taken. But Angeline is already on her way to Lyell Island, and Jake is unsure of where they stand as a couple.

Danger is hidden along with the elusive answers to Jake's questions. What seems innocent flirtation at first leads to deadly dancing with a past he had forgotten and a present situation he hadn't been very aware of.

The writing is engaging and immerses the reader into the contrasting but beautiful locales of the coast of British Columbia and the coast of Lyell Island, a Polynesian paradise.

Digging into the habits and mindsets of archaeologists is interesting to witness, while the troublesome romance adds a delightful human interest quality to the tale. Danger, love, life, the past of characters and the subjects they study, and the possible futures of all involved wrap up into a well rounded story. Add the mystical quality of legends and you've got a memorable book. Not surprising coming from Deborah Cannon.

Profitable EBook Creation - Revealed - 5 Maximum Ways to Advance With EBook Creation

The coming out of numerous eBooks on the World Wide Web has made the market more competitive than ever. In order to be successful in the business, E-book authors must make use of different combinations of techniques to move ahead in the competition. To help you succeed on this noble yet profitable arena, here are five maximum ways to advance with E-book creation.

1. Identify your target niche. Determine who your potential readers are. For instance, if you have tons of knowledge about home gardening then your probable market would most likely be composed of retired people or full time housewives.

2. Pick out an interesting topic. After identifying your niche, you have to narrow down a topic that would interest your potential readers. Selecting the right topic that would really sell is of the essence.

3. Create an attention-grabbing title. Formulate a title that is both catchy and based on facts. Never make a title that belies the content of your E-book just to catch your prospective clients attention. Not only is it considered unethical, it will also ruin your reputation in the long run.

4. Write a good E-book. In the end, it all comes down to how good your E-book is. For this reason, create something that you will be proud of. A well-written and useful E-book will take you a long way in terms of profit and repute.

5. Invest on effective promotion strategies. Shell out a certain amount of money to promote your E-book. First, you need to create an attractive cover that will serve as the face of your E-book. After that, take advantage of ads spaces on well-known websites to publicize your creation. You can also join a network to further increase the size of your potential market.

Forgiveness, How to Let Go

I was overwhelmed with emails after I published my personal experiences with forgiveness. I was surprised to see how many people felt like I did, and "could wear my shoes," so to speak. But very few felt the inner motivation to finally make the 'jump' and bridge the gap.

Each individual has his/her own opinion about forgiveness and how to go about it.

"People forgive best if they go at it in bits and pieces, and for specific acts," said Lewis B. Smedes. In retrospect, I am glad and grateful of my experiences, which allowed me to help others find inner peace.

Not because of its spiritual connotation but the issue of forgiveness in our lives is more important on a psychological, emotional and healthy level than money or sex.

If someone cuts you off on the road, or steals your parking space, it is a less personal offense and you can easily disregard the action, which most people don't, and in a few minutes it is forgotten. But if someone has hurt your feelings, the pain, distress and anger will stay with you for days, months, and even years. Both situations are a major source of stress, which will affect your mental and bodily biological functions. Forgiveness is not just a balm for the soul but it also improves your well being. So forgiveness is a simple way of dealing with the problem, and also the most dramatically effective way to find your equilibrium. Forgiveness is nothing more than a personal choice. There is no can or can't do. You do forgive or you don't, you have the choice.

Try to have empathy for the transgressor. Anyone who practices meditation or relaxation knows what it is like "walking a mile in the other's shoes." How to feel their stress, emotions and what they must be feeling at the moment of that encounter with you. It will allow you to feel compassion, which will help you make a different and effective choice.

Remember that forgiveness is not a weakness but a mark of strength of character.

Making a life touching choice is already difficult and if we add to it the actual planetary economic situation which is bringing individual stress to a new level, we must adjust our inner self and spirituality carefully. For some people, the difference between having a job and being unemployed is the same as life and death. The fear of lay off, job insecurity, mortgage or debt payments, the grudge against the old boss who is now even more demanding than before and you are ready to explode at the smallest aggravation. The last thing you need now is an 'assault' on your feelings.

The Chicago office of the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill - NAMI - reports that there are 32.000 suicides and 800.000 suicide attempts in the United States alone each year. "As our economic crisis deepens we're learning of a spike in calls to suicide hotlines. Some callers are considering suicide because they have been laid off or fear they will soon be out of work." Says the NAMI.

So how do you cope with it, forgiveness and all?

Unfortunately there is nothing you can do about the reality of others. But you can do something about changing yourself and with that you'll change the world. And it is easier than you think. The reasons I wrote "Dream Your Life Positively" are exactly that. How to simply change the way of thinking and acting into a positive energy. Later if you want you can graduate and start reading all the 'heavier' literature on how to become famous and wealthy.

Maybe the pain is fresh, like the friend who owes you money but instead of paying you just bought a new condo. Or it is an old wound, a parent who abused you, or a companion who cheated on you.

You are angry and the hurt is like a fire. Your mind is urging you to make a decision, either you put out the fire or heat it up. Get over it or get even.

While your mind is polluted with feelings of resentment and anger you see only negative in every situation in your life. This energy you are sending out will attract exactly the same negative energy all around you. Let's change this negative energy into a positive one.

Below I have some advice and a simple exercise if you are going through a stressful period, or have a difficult choice to make. Do it as often as you want until you feel the loosening of the constricting grip on your emotions and the natural release of positive energy which will change you and your life.

- Keep the same routine as you had before, even if you are not working. Stressed people have a tendency to change their daily routine often. Use your free time to do some voluntary work in a shelter or hospital for example. It is very motivating.

- Do talk to your friends and family about your situation, feelings and wishes. They can be a positive support when you are being negative.

- If you have money problems, don't get entangled in the right or wrong way of doing things as they sap your energy. Get professional financial advice at once.

This healing exercise below is designed to allow you access to the positive energy inherent in you. You will gain the benefit of compassion and forgiveness but also the opportunity to let go of your problems.

Find a quiet and comfortable place to sit where you will not be disturbed for at least 30 minutes. It is best done either early evening or about one hour before going to sleep. Try not to drink alcohol beforehand, nor do this meditation on a full stomach.

Use your standard meditation practice, if you have one, to put you into a relaxed state or use the ones in "Dream Your Life Positively."

1- Focus on your breathing. Follow the in and out breath without attempting to control it for about 10 to 12 repetitions while imagining or actually saying mentally, 'I feel calm and restful. I accept only what is good and positive. I reject all that is negative.'

2- Still focusing on your breath, say this little prayer: Thank you God (universal force, or spirit), for all the things I have. Thank you God, for all the blessings I am receiving. I deserve to be happy and successful. I am now ready to receive more love, support and wealth from the vast supply of the universe.

3- Now look into your memory bank, and find a place and time in your life, a day or even a few moments when you felt really happy. It should be a moment experienced by yourself alone. Your age at that moment doesn't matter. Don't bring any person with you into this place. I personally have a place under a palm tree on a beach when I was about 15 years old. I see what I am wearing, I can smell the ocean, feel the breeze and the warmth of the sun over my body and it never fails; it brings immediate peace of mind.

4- Re-live that moment in full. Try to bring back the smell, colors, and temperature, everything that made that moment the best ever for you. Feel the joy in your heart. Feel how good it is to be happy and how little it takes to make it come true. Stay with this moment for a while. This is the feeling you treasure and want to have every day of your life. This is now your safe place. Your 'calm place'. Your vacation place. Revel in these memories and this moment. In this state of joy and happiness repeat the above prayer and add at the end this affirmation: I accept only what is good and positive. I reject all that is negative. The breathing exercise, prayer and visualization should last about 20 minutes. If at any time you feel anxious and uneasy, stop at once.

Slowly open your eyes and bring yourself back to your room. Stay in this pure state of bliss for about 5 more minutes but now bring to mind the issue that is disturbing you. Empathize with the person who hurt you, or if you still feel uneasy about the situation simply ask God to help you find the strength to make the right choice of forgiveness. Now stop and do not duel with the issue any more. Leave it alone for tonight and let it stay there in your mind but detached from your thoughts. Repeat again: I accept only what is good and positive. I reject all that is negative.

You can now go back to your own routine or re-visualize your 'calm place' and go to sleep. Try to use only one 'calm place' all the time. It becomes stronger and more vivid with time. You can later change it if you want. You will see the small changes that will start operating the following day when the positive energy you brought forth starts to work. You will see that you are actually smiling more often than before...

What this exercise teaches is how to re-connect with the positive and happy side you have been hiding. Now you know how to detach yourself from the pain, hurt and problems and it feels good. No more analyzing or making a storm about the problem. You have learned how to leave them alone. Letting go is not throwing away or getting rid of your worries. They will be there tomorrow, but you are no longer attached to them 24/7 and like a miracle they also detach themselves from you.

Have a great journey. Much love.

Easy Meditation Techniques Anyone Can Learn

Meditation is something that can be done at any moment in time, by anyone, anywhere.

It costs nothing to experience the profound effects of a powerful meditative session, though it does take some practice to get to the point where you can enjoy the profound peace, as well as the other benefits associated with this ancient practice.

There are many different ways to meditate. All have value. For the purposes of this short article, we'll focus on some easy meditation techniques you can apply today to experience the magic of meditation for yourself.

Just remember that each of us experiences meditation at little differently. The best advice is to don't try to force anything. Just go with the flow and allow yourself to enjoy your few moments of silence. It's well worth it.

Strive only to reach a deep level of peace. If you go into your session expecting to see a white light or to hear a preconceived voice of guidance, you're setting yourself up for failure. These things -- or something else entirely may happen. But don't be discouraged if in your first attempt to make a conscious connection with your higher power, it doesn't quite happen.

Stay with it. Each session will build upon the one before and soon you'll have reached such a profound state of connection and bliss that nobody could stop you from indulging in a daily dose of meditation.

Step number one is to find a peaceful quiet location free from distractions. If you're using a meditation or visualization CD, queue it up now.

Find a comfortable chair, preferably one that allows you to keep your back straight and the energy flowing.

Next, simply close your eyes and begin to breathe deeply, slowly and naturally. As you breathe in, see the oxygen as rejuvenating and replenishing your body. And as you breathe out, imagine that you're simply letting go of every care and concern.

With each breath, allow your mind and body to sink further into a wonderfully relaxing and peaceful state of mind. One of the easy meditation techniques I often rely on is the "Stair Countdown". Imagine that you're on the top stair and as you take each step down, you become more deeply relaxed. Try counting down from 10 to 1 and by the time you reach 1, you'll be in a much more relaxed state.

Shoot for a 15 minute session in total. As you relax, random thoughts will enter your mind. Just let them leave as quickly as they arrived. Allow them to float on by. Your mind isn't used to meditation, so it naturally kicks out one thought after another. The more you can let these thoughts go and simply focus on the relaxing pleasure of your deep sense of peace, the more effective your meditation.

It doesn't take much, but it does take repetition. Don't expect to nail it on your first try. Simply follow these easy meditation techniques and allow yourself the gift of profound peace and so much more.

In the field of personal development, one book comes to mind, it's called, "You Can Have It All" by Arnold Patent.

I found the book in one of our antique thrift stores and paid less than $10 for it, I really didn't think much of it and never heard of Arnold Patent before. We've all heard of Anthony Robbins, Susie Orman, Wayne Dyer, but I never heard of Arnold Patent. I skimmed through the book and it looked like a short read. I read the book in about six hours and plan to reread the book, as soon as I get it back for my daughter. The book has short chapters, most of them less than five pages.

Looking at the short chapters, you could get the impression, that there isn't very much information in each chapter, how could there be with less than five pages and some chapters less than three pages. This was very deceiving to me, because each paragraph, was like a chapter and each chapter was like a small book.

The book is full of tools and advice and combines personal development with spirituality. He has chapters on meditation, energy, enjoying what you love to do for the rest of your life, cause and effect, abundance, attachment, pain and suffering, harmony, karma the past and forgiveness.

I can't tell you what a pleasure it was to read this book and if you're looking for some basics on quite a few motivational, spiritual and laws of attraction topics, this book has almost everything you need to get you interested in changing your life. You could actually read one chapter a day and think about it for the rest of the week, there's that much information in each chapter.

I was reading one of his recommendations and it was from Oprah Winfrey, she said, "It was one of the most important books that I had ever read." That's coming from one of the most successful people in the entertainment business. I stumbled across this book and might not have ever found it, but I'm telling you about it and highly recommend it.
